Towner County Medical Center Auxiliary

 

 

Towner County Medical Center Auxiliary was first organized in 1953, with 33 members. Mrs. Robert Sitz was the first president of the group. The auxiliary’s function was to become better acquainted with the hospital staff; to insure good relations between the public and the hospital; and to educate the public in hospital operations.

 

In the early years, money was raised from such projects as traveling baskets, birthday bands, cookbooks, bake sales, lunch sales and donations. Some of the items purchased included bedspreads, draperies, and pipe-in oxygen to patient’s rooms to name a few.

 

During the Christmas season, trees at TCMC are decorated with red, blue, green, and gold lights. Donations are given to “buy” lights in memory of a loved one or just to wish someone a happy holiday. The “Tree of Lights” project was first started in 1992 and has allowed the Auxiliary to purchase items such as a fetal monitor and isolette for newborns, telemetry equipment and a defibrillator.

 

Presently, the Auxiliary has 175 plus members, including both men and women.

 

With Community support of the various fund-raising projects as well as donations and memorials, the Auxiliary has raised over $225,000 in the past 50 years. More recent items purchased include teddy bears for pediatric patients, lab equipment, commercial washer and dryer, whirlpool tubs for both TCMC and TCLC, fetal monitor, isolette for newborns, telemetry equipment, remodeling of St. Francis dining room, wall decorations, a defibrillator, a pal lift scale and an analyzer.
