Massage Therapy

  • What is Massage Therapy?
Massage is defined as the systematic manipulation of soft tissues for therapeutic purposes.
Massage is one of the oldest healing Chinese remedies. Records dating back to 3000 B.C. document its use. Massage has been practiced in virtually all cultures in a variety of modalities over the centuries

  • Can anybody get a massage?
People of all ages can benefit from massage, although some conditions such as uncontrolled hypertension and acute illnesses and injuries contraindicate massage treatment. See your primary practitioner or chiropractor to be assessed prior to a massage, if you have any questions.

  • Is Massage a Luxury?
This is a perception that is rapidly changing as massage becomes increasingly accepted as a natural part of a healthy lifestyle, a help to many chronic problems and a way to help shake off those aches and pains we tend to just get accustomed to as a way of life.
An analogy can be made that massage is to the human body what a tune up is to the car.

  • Swedish Massage
Swedish massage employs the system based on the Western concepts of anatomy and physiology and employs various movements from slow and gentle to bring about complete relaxation, to vigorous or deep, to work toward the deeper tissue structures of muscle and fascia to loosen layers of connective tissue, depending on what results are hoped to be achieved.
The therapist and client work together to bring about the changes the client is hoping to attain.

  • Tips for Clients
    • Drink water, Drink water, Drink water! It hydrates your whole system allowing your muscles and other tissues to be manipulated more easily, then assists in flushing away the waste products that are released during massage.
    • Privacy is important and you will be securely draped with linens at all times.
    • You can ask questions at any time.
    • Tell your therapist what you would like from your massage — whether it’s relaxation to working out knots in sore muscles.
    • Come ten to fifteen minutes prior to your first appointment so you can fill out your health history form; then ten minutes prior to other visits to update your therapist on any changes. That way, you will not take away from any of your massage time.
